Exciting Line up for Bridport Book Fest

Bridport Book Fest is back at the Arts Centre on 7th April with a best-selling novelist as the special guest, an exciting line-up of authors, a programme of unique performances, and the prize-giving for the Under 12s Short Story Champion.

The event raises money for the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which has hospices in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. It costs over £8million a year to pay for its work with life-limited children and their families.

Organiser Christopher Legg said: ‘We had such a great response from the public and authors last year, we decided we should come back and do it all again in the spring. And I’m delighted that Rosanna Ley has agreed to be our guest.’

Rosanna, who lives in West Bay and whose seventh novel Her Mother’s Secret is now available, is the best-selling author of The Little Theatre by the Sea, a novel which itself is set partly in West Dorset. She said: ‘When Chris asked me to be part of this event, I was thrilled. It’s for such a good cause and to be encouraging the next generation of writers along the way is close to my heart.’

Rosanna has also worked as a creative writing tutor for over 20 years. She has led courses for colleges and universities in England and runs her own writing retreats and holidays both in the UK and at stunning locations in Europe. She has worked with community groups in therapeutic settings and completed an MA in creative writing for personal development in order to support this. She also mentors and appraises the work of new writers and is continuing to work closely with the Dorset Writers Network.

Bridport Book Fest has teamed up with St Mary’s School, Beaminster, whose Deputy Head Alison Chant said: ‘We have a lot of talented writers at school, and were so keen to take part when given the chance.’

This is the second Book Fest and follows the success of the first in December, and is a welcome addition to the already packed calendar of community events that keep the town buzzing all year round.

‘This is shaping up to be a fantastic day. We have an exciting programme of performances, which are unique, witty, inspiring, funny and heart-warming; and it’s great that The Book Shop is again showing their support with prizes and donations. And I’m sure that the people of Bridport will show up as they always do to support us on the day,’ Christopher said.
